First Children’s Hospital Rated Outstanding

The Care Quality Commission has praised the NHS trust for "working effectively to provide the best care" at Birmingham Children's Hospital. The "outstanding" rating is all the more impressive as eight years it received criticism for having insufficient numbers of trained staff, beds and operating theatres.

Supporting the whole family, and helping young patients feel relaxed in a busy and daunting environment, are extra challenges for specialist children's hospitals.

When families are faced with decisions about end of life care, they will now be able to use a new £1m unit called Magnolia House, which will bein the hospital grounds, called Magnolia House. The report also praised the emotional support which bereaved parents receive.
